Jawbone Up

Recently, I got the chance to try a Jawbone Up from Best Buy. I was so excited I could have almost peed my pants.

A little bit about the Jawbone Up

UP is a system that takes a holistic approach to a healthy lifestyle.

·         The wristband tracks your movement and sleep in the background.

·         The app displays your data, lets you add things like meals and mood, and delivers insights that keep you moving forward.

Live Better. Start Now. Jawbone UP. Track your sleep activity, steps, calorie intake and more with the Jawbone UP wrist sensor and free mobile app. UP gives you meaningful, personalized insights so you can make lasting improvements to your everyday life.

The sizing process was easy. You download a PDF file wit the size measurements. You take a string and wrap it around your wrist and then measure the string. Correspond your length with the appropriate size. I should have got an extra small… I upped my size because I was afraid. Don’t do this.

I anxiously waited for it to arrive. Like a kid at Christmas. It showed up and I was one happy camper. I busted that baby out. Read the instructions (the most important part) and charged it. Once the little light turned solid I knew I was in business. The app was downloaded as soon as I knew I was getting the Jawbone Up. You have to download the app for your phone for it to show you your data. It’s available on iPhone and for Android.

I plugged it into my iPhone and set it up with all my personal data. Weight, height etc. The app was really user friendly. I couldn’t wait for it to start calculating all my “stuff”. I put the band back on and went about the rest of my day. Before I went to bed I put the band in “sleep” mode. This allows it to track your sleep cycle. This whole little function was probably my favorite part. You hold the little button on end of the band and a cute little moon lights up and the band vibrates. This is how you know it’s in this mode. Now there is a whole lot going on with this band. Just in sleep mode, it tracks the time it takes you to fall asleep, the number of times you wake up throughout the night and the amount if time you were awake for those times. It also tracks your deep and light sleep by time. There is also a smart alarm function. Where it wakes you up with a gentle vibration within a certain amount of time from when you set it at the most optimal time for you. It has something to do with deep sleep. I felt refreshed after the first day. There was something magical about it.

The band also tracks your activity throughout the day. It tracks steps, total time active and total time stationary. It will tell you how many calories you burn while you were active and at rest. It’s pretty darn awesome. It also has an alarm where it vibrates after you be been stationary for a certain amount of time. I had mine set at 30 minutes. It definitely forced me to get up and be more active throughout the day.

There is also a function in the app the allows you to track your food. You can put in custom items or choose from a HUGE list (like Starbucks Vanilla Scones..) and even put in the amount of servings. It tracks the time and total amount of fats, sugars and all that other healthy stuff. It will even tell you when you have had too much of something (ie sugar in my case).

I absolutely loved my Jawbone Up… for the three days it worked. It suddenly stopped working. It all of a sudden lost its charge (it still had 6 days left) and then wouldn’t recharge. At all.

There are a few things you can do to rest the band. First is a soft reset or second, is a hard reset (instructions here). Neither worked. I was sad. So I don’t really have much data to show. I am going to use some other photos to show you how it looks once you’ve had a few weeks with the band.

*This review is entirely my own opinion. I did receive the Jawbone Up from the Best Buy WOLFbloggers program as a gift to post my personal and honest review.

Emmy Rossum’s Sentimental Journey Review

How do you like to purchase your music? Digitally or physically. I love going to to the store and picking up an actual physical copy of an artist’s album. There is something about the cheap plastic packaging and the pictures in the lackluster paper booklet that makes my heart and soul giddy.

The new Emmy Rossum Album, Sentimental Journey, came out a few days ago and I’ve had my eye on it for awhile now. About a week ago, I stopped off at the mailbox on my lunch break and there was a funny looking envelope in the mail. Addressed to me? First thought. “What did I accidentally sign up for now?”. I suspiciously opened the envelope. Goodness gracious! It just happened to be the Emmy Rossum Album I’d been keeping tabs on. Then it happened. I screamed like a school girl and jumped around for a few minutes, texted my friend Heather and popped it in the the prehistoric yet trusty car CD player. Adam and I spend quite a bit of time in the car. About 3 times through the CD worth each day. 3 times the 7 days we’ve had the CD equals roughly 21 times we’ve listened to the it and we CAN’T GET ENOUGH! The CD player hasn’t even acted up. It can get enough either.

Obviously I was excited to get Emmy’s album as an early preview c/o the One2One Network. I forgot I requested to review it so it was a super fun surprise. I absolutely love her as an actress. How many of you watch Shameless? The American version. Right?! I know you’re squealing and making weird animal noises right now. She’s that freaking good (if you don’t watch it, go do so now). Well she’s just as good, if not better (yeah I said it), as a singer. Her voice is classic and pure. It’s not over synthesized. I’m sure she would sound similar if she was doing karaoke at a local bar. However, the lyrics may be slurred, impromptu and probably slightly more ridiculous in that circumstance.

All the songs are covers of classic American 1920, 30’s and 40’s era songs. I’ve heard a few of the songs before and I am love Emmy’s renditions. Maybe I’m a little biased though, who knows! This CD was a special passion project for Ms Rossum. Each song represents a month during the year. Take example A: The second song on the Album and one of my favorites, “The Object of my Affection”, is about a young lady and the love she has for a gentleman and his love for her. “Each song needed to either lyrically or emotionally reflect the corresponding month,” Emmy explained. “Some songs were obvious fits, like Summer Wind for June, and Pretty Paper for December. Others songs were less literal fits. I chose Nobody Knows You (When You’re Down and Out) for September because, to me, the plaintive melody and lyric emotionally reflect the cold weather creeping in and the sense of melancholy we can get in the fall months.”

The entire album is glorious. It puts you in a good mood. You can listen to it around anyone and everyone because the lyrics are timeless and classic. It’s even husband approved.

Verdict: It’s a must have in your music collection. Whether it is digitally or physically. You can buy it on Amazon or iTunes.

I participated in this campaign for One2One Network. I was honored with a free copy of the album for me to review. By posting, I am eligible for incentives. All opinions stated are my own because no one can buy my words and I really do love this album. I would have posted this regardless of getting it for free or not.

Goodbye 2012, Hello 2013

Wow, 2012 went by fast. Where did it go? Who am I kidding… I was just super lazy the entire year and let it all pass by. Lame! In 2013 I vow to not be so lazy.. with my photography, my blog, my shop.. life in general. I am not the kind of girl that makes resolutions. Only because i’m not a bandwagon jumping kind of girl. Heck, and we all know that we can never keep them… so why make them in the first place? But I do have some goals for myself in the next year. I’ll share them with you to maybe spawn ideas for goals of your own and to help keep myself accountable. Or so I think it will.

– Create a defined marketing plan and put it into action.

– Post regularly about recent photo sessions.

– Have one mini session event per month.

– Reevaluate wedding packet.

– Incorporate film photography in each session.

– Actually complete a 365 project.

– Create custom client welcome packet.

– Find a new way to deliver digital photos to clients.

– Take on more types and more clients. Complete at least one Small Business/Commercial session.

– Post regularly. Period.

– Have regular series posts.

– Promote local small businesses and wedding vendors.

– Introduce the Mystery Box

– Incorporate photography tips and trick monthly

– Get my DIY on!

– Start the Coffee Remix link up. I am so flippin’ excited about this!

– Send out a newsletter.

– Share some of the husband’s delicious recipes.

– Give Cash his own post per week… (this was his first one)

– Continue to add new products.

– Change up items. I’m thinking things that make you shine and your house.. and that’s it.

– Add welcome blurb… LIKE YESTERDAY!!!

– Update packaging.

– Build fan base.

– Get product into a brick and mortar shop.

– Have product featured in a subscription box of some kind.

– Out of the apartment, into a house!

– Host our first Thanksgiving.

– Organize everything we own. Out with the old, in with the new! This will probably happen with the house thing happens.

– Less eating out. More homemade food.

– Start a vegetable garden… for reals! Again… with the house thing.

– New computer for both of us.

That’s what I have for now. I am the kind of lady that will add and change my goals as I go. I don’t think there is a problem with that. Going with the flow is always good for the body and mind. Sticking to a concrete plan and not having the ability to change as the situation does, you can set yourself up for failure. And who wants that?

What are your goals for the new year? Or if you made resolutions… what are they? Share in the comments below! I’d love to add some more goals to my list inspired by you guys! I hope I could do the same in return. Happy New Year!

Ps. There is still time to sign up for Small Business Month! Deadline for applications has been extended to January 15th 2013! We all like to party now and work later. :)
